For most people, their sexual preferences are obvious, but for some of them, things are a bit different. Being unclear about your sexuality can make your intimate connections daunting. But not for these celebrities who embraced their orientation with pride and grace. It took them long but they finally reached where they were meant to be.
- Lil Nas X
While interviewing for the Guardian in 2020, Lil Nas X got up close and personal – ” Honestly, my plan was to die with the secret. In the beginning, it felt like I have to work really hard to hide it and I did it a lot.” Plus, he also shared his concern for the safety of the fans who also struggle regularly with the decision to come out loud. Lil shared that he doesn’t want to encourage anyone to do something they are not 100% sure of.
Lil Nax first revealed his homosexuality in his 2019 song “C7osure”. It seems like he has been telling us for the whole time that he is a part of the LGBTQ community without actually saying the word.
- Hayle Kiyoko
This Disney actor turned pop star is living her queer teenage dream. Hayle understood and accepted her sexual orientation when she was just six years old. Apparently, at that time she had a crush on her female teacher but couldn’t express how she feels. As she grew older, she struggled with the fear of rejection and criticism.
During her 2019 interview for The Advocate’s podcast, LGBTQ&A, she shared how she used to feel unwanted and alone while growing up as a gay. During the release of her music video “Girls like Girls,” Kiyoko told her publicist – ” I don’t want my name published in any magazine. I don’t want the word lesbian even close to my name.”
She further explained that she just wanted to be an artist, not someone who people judge only after seeing a word about them. They don’t listen to the music or whatever an artist has to express.
Lately, she has opened up about coming out – “I always knew that I liked girls since my young age. A lot of times, people think it’s just a phase and it will go away. Eventually, my parents became comfortable with my preferences. Some parents accept other members of the LGBTQ community but when it’s their kid, it’s kind of a reality check for them.”
- Ricky Martin
In his 2021 People interview, Martin talked about his sexuality, coming out and that infamous interview with Barbara Walters. “Sexuality is a complicated thing. It’s not always black and white. There are lots of colors.” He recalled his female dates – “I was in love with them, It felt beautiful and right at that moment.” He confessed about having strong chemistry and connection with them.
He further shared- ” You don’t have to be a homosexual man to understand that love is quite complicated. Or you don’t have to be gay to know how confusing attraction feels.”
It might take a bit for you to understand and accept your sexuality but nobody else has the right to force a label on you. Being honest with yourself is the only justice to do.
